New to the Club?
They say “champions are made in the off-season”…the MS Kids Club will be standing by this quotation throughout the summer with optional open mat practices on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30–7pm in the MS High School Wrestling Room. The club will also be attending several folkstyle meets throughout the off-season. One such event, the Canton Open held on April 21st produced quite a few placing “champions.” First Place Noah Crowley, Dakota Hoffman; Second Place Troy Hoffman, Hunter Rhodes; and Fourth Place Austin Vincent.
New MS Kids Club Head Coach Chet Crowley is keeping the practices and the competitions open and relaxed through the summer. “Summer participation allows a wrestler the chance to accelerate their training program without the normal pressures and hassles of the winter folkstyle environment. A small sacrifice on the wrestlers part pays major dividends during the seasons ahead. In addition to streamlined advanced training, high-level coaching and an emphasis on leadership skills, spring programs offer other benefits not available in winter programs”, states Crowley. Crowley believes participating in off season meets gives the wrestler an advantage both physically and mentally over others who do not continue training through the summer. Oftentimes an average wrestler can advance to a contender in just one off-season of wrestling.
“One of our main goals is to groom the MS Kids Club to serve as a “feeder” program for the Jr. High and Sr. High School wrestling teams for years to come. The additional experience of seeking out the state’s best talent at these off-season meets will definitely assist in attaining that goal”, says Crowley.
The MS club will also have “guest coaches” from larger teams in Chicago, informal dual practices with local clubs and several summertime fundraisers and activities. One such activity is the Wrestling CAMPOREE, July 13–15 at Turkey Run State Park. Wrestling families will be getting together to camp out, kayak, hike and swim near the state park. The event includes cabin and tent camping, a Friday night Pizza party and LOTS of fun!
